Calung Banyumasan

The bamboo music rhythms that become the soul of Lengger performances and the sound identity of Banyumas.

Discussion

Calung Banyumasan is a set of bamboo percussion instruments with diatonic and pentatonic scales. Unlike the West Javanese calung which is shaken, the Banyumasan calung is played by striking.

This music is the main accompaniment for the Lengger dance. Its crisp sound and lively rhythm strongly reflect the cheerful and egalitarian character of the Banyumasan people.
