Ebeg (Kuda Kepang)

A visceral trance dance on woven bamboo horses, channeling a bold and communal agrarian spirit.

Discussion

Ebeg is a form of traditional dance art that is very popular in the Banyumas region, using horses made from woven bamboo.

Different from kuda lumping in other areas, Ebeg Banyumas has distinct characteristics in its bendhe gamelan musical accompaniment and the 'mendhem' attraction or trance state which is the climax of the performance.
